[livejournal.com profile] sirona_gs gave me these seven words: beaches, clouds, poetry, notebooks, castles, the colour purple, eggs

Comment to this post, and I will list seven things I want you to talk about. They might make sense or they might be totally random. Then post that list, with your commentary, to your journal. Other people can get lists from you, and the meme merrily perpetuates itself.

beaches

Okay, so I believe it's relevant to say that I live in southeast Texas, and the only beach I had ever seen up until the age of nineteen, was the Gulf Coast. Now, a lot of people might sit there, and go 'well. that's a beach, isn't it?' It's understandable, given the fact that yes, technically, it is, in fact, a beach.

However, I went to New York, and later, Maine, and I saw the ocean for the first time, and a beach with white sand piled high, and deep enough that I had to get a stick to be able to walk. The one in Maine was rocky, and there was bits of colored sea-glass all along it. It remains one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen, and I don't think I'll ever forget it. I explored the New York coast until I literally could not walk another step, and my pants were wet up to my knees, I had sea shells in all the pockets, and I was freezing, and it was just an amazing, amazing experience.

The one in Maine, though. That was nigh unforgettable. Climbing the cliffs, and out onto the jetty to watch the waves crash in, and the tide pools with actual starfish, and little creatures I'd never seen before 'cept in books, and just. All of it. It was beautiful in a way I had never seen before. So yes.

Clouds
Ahah. Clouds remind me of when I was little, and we used to sit out on the porch, or sprawl in the grass, and look up to see what sorts of shapes we could find in the clouds. God, I still remember it so clearly. We had the run of the neighborhood 'cause y'know, small towns are like that, and a few friends, and I would go find a quiet place, or a field, or our backyard, and just sprawl all over each other as we pointed up at the sky and outlined the shape of a dragon, or a horse, or a mighty pirate ship. It was an every-day thing, y'know?

Poetry
One of my closest friends writes the most amazing poetry. I love Shakespeare. I love poetry in general for the lyrical way the words can be put together, and the depth of emotion, of love, hate, passion, fear, death in all of it. Poetry can be more than words, more than letters on a page; you just have to feel it to make it real.

Notebooks
YOU CANNOT GET THROUGH LIFE WITHOUT A GOOD NOTEBOOK. Ahah. I have five of them. I fill them with stories, and fanfic, and the most ridiculous little doodles when I get bored. I write out character sketches, and sketch out scenes on lined paper, and I have one story started in one notebook, and continued on the back-side pages in another. I love them because I love the feel of a pen in my hand, of scribbling words down as fast as I think them, and there will always be something more in that, for me, than typing it straight from my head.

There's just something beautiful in hand-written words, and to me, a notebook is a necessity.

Castles
I love them! The architecture; the beauty in the curves, and sharp edges, and the way they stand tall, and proud, and proclaim 'this is mine' to anyone who sees them. They've lasted for hundreds of years, and they'll last longer still. They encourage romanticism. They make me think of King Arthur, and all the stories behind that name. I want to visit one, someday, to reach out, and touch something that's so much older than anything else I've ever known.

The Color Purple
Funny, that. It's the color of my birth-stone. A color I wear everyday on a ring, and a bracelet that says 'I ♥ boobies'. Ahaha. It isn't a color I particularly like, even though I don't hate it, either.

Eggs
I don't like them. Real ones, anyway. I do enjoy dying them on Easter, though. I did it with my niece last year, and she had so much fun with it, and we got it EVERY WHERE, but yeah. No. It was just so much fun. And of course it was something I did when I was little, too. We boiled the eggs, dyed them, hid them, found them, and then ate them. haha. It was fun.
